ON-STREET parking charges at three Chester city centre locations will finally come into force this month having been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The limited waiting bays on City Road, Brook Street and Foregate Street will be changed to pay-and-display parking from March 31. The move is part of Cheshire West and Chester Council’s parking strategy for the city and aims to ensure spaces are available for those visiting shops, bars and restaurants. The pandemic had delayed the introduction of the charges which were initially planned to begin in May last year. Deputy leader and cabinet member for environment, highways and strategic transport, councillor Karen Shore said: “The introduction of charges in these locations will ensure everyone can park where they need to, when they need to.
AN average speed camera could be installed on a notorious stretch of road in Chester as safety measures are set to be discussed in an attempt to reduce the amount of collisions. Cheshire’s police and crime commissioner (PCC) David Keane has identified the A41 between Christleton and Waverton as one of four high collision routes in the county to receive a cash injection from the force. The move aims to make the roads safer through speed reduction and reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries. A full feasibility study and site survey would need to be carried out before any scheme is implemented.
