Defender Tom Eastman has joined Colchester United on a two-year deal having turned down a six-month contract with the Blues. Eastman, 19, will be reunited with his former Town academy coaches Tony Humes and Richard Hall at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
The centre-half joins the U’s on a free transfer as the Blues’ offer didn’t match the terms of his previous one-year deal.
Eastman says he s delighted to be joining his hometown side: This is a great move for me and I m joining a big club in this division. I was born in Colchester and have lived in Clacton all of my life, so it s great to be playing for my local club.

Town are once again linked with Doncaster Rovers duo Billy Sharp and James Coppinger in this morning’s tabloids. TWTD first mentioned striker Sharp in connection with the Blues when manager Paul Jewell was spotted at their game at Derby in March, while Town’s interest in midfielder Coppinger has been a persistent rumour over the last few days.
According to today’s national reports, the Blues have offered £2 million for Sharp and £600,000 for Coppinger.
Sharp, 25, started his career with hometown club Sheffield United, spending time on loan at Rushden and Diamonds during the second half of 2004/05.
Town are again being linked with a move for Aston Villa keeper Thomas Sørensen. TWTD first reported the Blues interest in the 31-year-old Danish international back in January.

Richard Wright was named the Town Official Supporters Club Player of the Year at this tonight s Player Awards Evening at the Greshams Sports and Social Club. David Wright was second and skipper Gareth McAuley was third in the award voted on by fans ahead of today s game against Coventry and online.
The Town goalkeeper had already been named the Players Player of the Year.
Connor Wickham won the Dale Roberts Trophy for the Academy Player of the Year, becoming the first schoolboy to win the award.
The inaugural winner of the Ashley Cushion Away Match Passport Holders Player of the Year was Gareth McAuley.
McAuley to Play in Alexander Tribute Match at Lincoln Thursday, 29th Apr 2010 11:35
Central defender Gareth McAuley will play in a benefit match for his former Lincoln City manager Keith Alexander at Sincil Bank on Monday, 3rd May (KO 3pm). Alexander died at the age of 53 earlier in the season while boss at Macclesfield.
McAuley, who has been given permission by Town boss Roy Keane to play in the game, was deeply saddened by Alexander’s death: Keith signed me for Lincoln and became a friend as well as my manager. He was a true gentleman.”
The game sees a Keith Alexander XI, managed by his assistant at Lincoln and Macclesfield, Gary Simpson, face an All-Star XI, managed by ex-England international midfielder Paul Ince.
