This discussion will investigate the numerous examples of Black military service, with Black Americans fighting in every United States conflict from the American War for Independence to present day. It will also explore how the military valor of African Americans helped end limited martial involvement and segregated military service.  American Revolution to the Civil War Black service members have fought in every single American conflict. The U.S. Army History Office estimates around 5,000 warriors in the American Revolution were Black. Air Force must address inequalities, lack of opportunities for Hispanic airmen Brig. Gen. (ret.) Ricardo Aponte and Brig. Gen. (ret.) Carlos E. Martinez February 10 Gen. Charles CQ Brown Jr., the chief of staff, has acknowledged that the Air Force Independent Racial Disparity Review has revealed that Black airmen do not trust their chain of command. The review must be expanded to include Hispanics, the authors write. (Trey Ward/Air Force) We recently reviewed the Air Force’s Independent Racial Disparity Review, published in December, which focused on disparities affecting Black airmen and provided recommendations to develop action plans addressing them.
