Spencer Rees is the US Lacrosse Division I Men s Player of the Week

Tue Apr 27 2021 | Nelson Rice | College PHOTO BY JOHN STROHSACKER Spencer Rees continues to make the most of his opportunity starting for No. 13 Navy this spring. The senior goalie, who before this season saw a combined 61 minutes of game action spread over the previous three years, shined on senior day. In his first appearance against Army in the historic rivalry, Rees made a career-best 19 saves, including 14 in the second half, to stifle the Black Knights’ offense in a 9-4 win. It was the fewest goals Army scored in a game since April 30, 2017. For his performance, Rees is the US Lacrosse Division I Men’s Player of the Week.

Men s Lacrosse Bracketology: It s All About Opportunity

Tue Apr 27 2021 | Patrick Stevens | College PHOTO BY JOHN STROHSACKER At this point in the season, it’s all about opportunity. That’s why the chart of at-large teams in the weekly bracket exercise is reduced to only a dozen teams scrambling for eight spots. It’s not that top-30 teams in the America East (Albany), the Metro Atlantic (Monmouth), the Northeast (Hobart and Bryant) and the Southern (High Point) conferences have no chance to make the NCAA tournament. But because of some combination of a questionable loss or two, the absence of high-end victories and (especially) no games left against potential top-10 teams, they basically have one opportunity left: To win their conference tournaments.

Army West Point continues dominance in Army-Navy Cup with 2-0 win

Army West Point continues dominance in Army-Navy Cup with 2-0 win John Poncy and Oscar Pereira scored for the Black Knights and goalkeeper Josh Taylor made six saves on the day Share this story Matt Ralph Two second half goals and a big penalty kick stop secured Army West Point’s fourth Army-Navy Cup win on Sunday afternoon at Subaru Park. Going into the second scoreless, John Poncy connected off a pass from Oscar Pereira to put the Black Knights in front. Pereira doubled the lead with a strike from distance in the 59th minute but even with the 2-0 lead the Army defense had to do a lot of work to secure the victory.

Quint s Top 20: Spring Splendor

We were treated to a smorgasbord of television games, rivalry games and contests that had league-standing significance.  The ACC Thursday Night Thriller remains undefeated. Navy earned the Star in front of 5,000 fans in Annapolis. UMBC keeps winning overtime games. Otto bounced back in Charlottesville. The Drexel Dragons and Saint Joe’s Hawks have momentum in late April.  For some, this week is the last of the regular season. For others it s the chance to play for a conference automatic qualifier where every game has Game 7’ intensity and ramifications. Right now, there are roughly 45 teams in the hunt for the NCAA Tournament.
