“Efforts must be at full speed to give fully-vaccinated PUV drivers and transport workers the opportunity to return to work or ply their routes to help alleviate the hardships of people dependent on public transportation,” Poe, chairperson of the Senate public services committee, said in a statement.
“As more vaccines arrive, we hope that drivers will have faster and wider access in getting the doses as their shield against the worst impact of COVID-19 when they go out,” she added.
The senator has been pushing for the inoculation of PUV drivers and operators against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). They are included in the A4 priority group of the government, which aims to start the vaccine rollout for the sector within June.
Senator Grace Poe is calling for a legislative inquiry on the "dismal performance" of the government in implementing the service contracting program under the Bayanihan to Recover as One, or Bayanihan 2 law.

Poe said the two agencies have almost P10 billion in their budget allocations for this year that they can use to put up “food pantries”, to serve meals to school children.
She said the beneficiaries of the child feeding programs could be expanded if the DSWD, and the DepEd would learn from the success of community pantries. They could partner with local government units and non-government organizations, such as church groups, civil society and business associations, she said.
“The community pantry experience shows that there is tremendous goodwill among our people just waiting to be tapped for a great cause, and addressing child hunger is definitely one,” Poe, who earlier filed a resolution to commend community pantry organizers, said in a statement.
