My recent trip to visit my older brother, his wife, and family in northwestern Missouri and Kansas City was one of those times to wring out the laughter, hugs and joy from each moment. I was the one who introduced my sis-in-law, Carolyn, to my brother back in 1979 and she has been one of the few constant people in my ever-changing life. I have made her laugh and she has given me strength to keep-on-truckin.through four marriages, the birth of a son, the death of my two parents and my younger brother. She is on the other side of the phone for all of the moments I need to talk. She is the older sister I never received at birth.

Life is good! I recently bought a RadRunner electric utility bicycle online and it has been great to ride again and not feel defeated by huffing and puffing up any hills. There are four levels of pedal assist on the bike so all I do is twist the right handle grip and power is engaged. Zoom! The bike was largely assembled when it arrived and is real sharp looking in olive green matte finish with black fenders over twenty-inch wheels..great for short people. It can go 45 miles per battery charge and 20 miles an hour on level ground but will go further if you pedal assist. This girl got some fun gear, too, like a really “Rad” black helmet, black open finger-padded palm gloves, a water bottle holder and a comfy seat. Next comes a set of black saddle bags for light cargo and an odometer to monitor distance. It has been delightful cruising the paved Mesabi Trail system that is right across the street from my house in Soud

Well, first things first..time to step up to the plate and say my KETO diet temporarily went by the wayside. I went to see my doc and she said my triglycerides were going up and suggested I try a plan that was “lowfat”. That was discouraging. I was told by some KETO supporters to ignore that advice and my levels would drop. Some other experts said to eat more natural fats like nuts and avocados, but then Easter came a few days later and a Chocolate Bunny got in the way. Then efforts at a KETO restructure were further annihilated by the upcoming trip to Michigan with my son and his fiance. I did not undo all of my efforts, a few pounds and that’s a good thing, but I can say in confidence that Upper Michigan has really superb fudge.

Holiday humor in our sabbatical COVID year Posted Scarlet Stone

This sabbatical year is nearly over with just one more holiday ahead. I call it that because we are taking a year off from many events and practices that we do as part of our normal routines. I, like so many others, struggle to find balance in this time of pandemic, knowing I have so much to be thankful for as others are going without. I reflect deeper and many times need to draw on my sense of humor and pleasant memories to cope.
