Minister: No issues on first day of CXC

Minister of Education Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly said no issues or incidents were reported to the ministry on Monday following the Caribbean Examination Council’s (CXC) oral examinations.
Principal of Fatima College Father Gregory Augustine said the first day of examinations went smoothly.
The council’s Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) and Caribbean Secondary Entrance Certificate (CSEC) oral exams for French and Spanish began on Monday.

The TT Unified Teachers’ Association (TTUTA) has said given the current covid19 crisis, the health, safety, and preservation of life for students and teachers must be given priority.
In a statement, TTUTA called on the Ministry of Education to postpone all activities regarding the administration of the Caribbean Secondary Entrance Certificate (CSEC), Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE), and Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ).
It said the general council of TTUTA met in an emergency meeting on Monday, when a number of education professionals expressed concerns about the regional exams.

Advocates for the re-mark of the Caribbean Examination Council’s (CXCs) 2020 Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) and Caribbean Secondary Entrance Certificate (CSEC) examinations are continuing their efforts six months after grades were first released.
In a joint statement from student and parent advocates from Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, and Barbados, the group said they still have not received the justice they have been fighting for.
TTUTA: Pre-covid19 school infrastructure still an issue

PRESIDENT of the TT Unified Teachers Association (TTUTA) Antonia De Freitas said there are still health, safety, and infrastructure issues in some schools, even before covid19 arrived in TT in March, are yet to be properly rectified.
In a brief phone interview with Newsday on Thursday, De Freitas said she will raise the matter with the Ministry of Education and will continue to monitor these areas of concern.
She said these issues included water connection, improper ventilation, and the readiness of labs and workshops for students to complete their School Based Assessments (SBAs) and practicals.
