LAHORE: A probe has been launched into the Karachi Express train accident near Sukkur early on Sunday under the federal government inspector of railways (FGIR) who has been asked to submit a report to the railways ministry within 48 hours.
A brief preliminary report has identified “poor condition of the track” as the main reason for the accident that left a woman dead and about 13 passengers injured.
Meanwhile, the operation to clear the affected track of debris was completed 50 per cent 16 hours after the accident. The work started at 3am on Saturday night and continued till filing of this report on Sunday night.

KARACHI: The Rohri train accident, where one woman was killed and 40 others were injured, has delayed Karachi-Lahore trains by three to 10 hours, said railway authorities.
Seven passenger trains that are to arrive in Karachi and eight that are to reach Lahore have been delayed due to the accident. However, railway authorities confirmed that the Lahore to Karachi train track has been restored but operations but the Karachi to Lahore train track will be made functional after 10 hours.

Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Azam Khan Swati said the initial report of the unfortunate incident that took place in Sunday’s wee hours will be received in four to five days. At least a woman was killed and multiple other passengers received injuries when their Lahore-bound train - the Karachi Express - met an accident between Panu Aqil and Rohri.
Talking to local media, the minister said he would not tolerate the negligence of whoever is involved in the mishap. He said if the train driver is found guilty, he will not be spared and action will be initiated against him.

KARACHI: At least a woman passenger was killed while several others were hurt when wagons of the Lahore-bound Karachi Express derailed near Rohri in the early hours of Sunday.
The Lahore-bound Karachi Express met the accident near Rohri and Pano Aqil, killing the woman and injuring several others besides suspending the up and down country railway traffic.
The Edhi Ambulance teams, locals and paramilitary Rangers were taking part in the rescue work. They were initially confronting problems due to darkness. According to Edhi sources, several passengers were injured in the accident and at least six were shifted to a nearby hospital. As many as 7-8 wagons of the Karachi Express derailed somewhere between the Pano Aqil and Rohri railway stations. Of these 4-5 wagons fell into a nearby ravine.
