A day after promising to solve the case, national police chief Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar announced on Sunday, May 23, the arrest of three people tagged in the brutal killing of transman Ebeng Mayor in Quezon City. He identified those arrested as Zander dela Cruz, Joel Loyola and Richard Araza.

In a statement issued on Thursday, April 22, NBI Officer-In-Charge Director Eric B. Distor identified the two suspects as Bernadette Ubante Lagat and Paulo Arevalo Onate.
The NBI said the two suspects were behind the Facebook page “Swab Test Pilipinas” which has been offering home service swab tests for P3,500.
“They claimed that their laboratory is affiliated with DOH’s (Department of Health) accredited laboratory Marilao Medical Diagnostic Center, hence, authorized to perform home service swab testing,” it said.
“Upon verification with the Health Facilities and Services Regulatory Bureau of DOH, the operatives of NBI’s Special Action Unit (SAU) found out that there is no existing licensed facility as COVID-19 Testing Laboratory by the name of ‘SWAB TEST PILIPINAS’,” it pointed out.

Millionaire broadcaster Anthony Taberna appeared at the Quezon City Prosecutors’ Office recently to file qualified theft complaint against a former employee for allegedly stealing P15 million from his company, A. Taberna Foods, Inc.
Taberna alleged that the employee, Ernie Patrick Aquino, erstwhile finance and administrative head of A. Taberna Foods, Inc., as conniving with Gualberto Baluyot II, manager of Eastwest Banking Corporation – UP Village.
In his complaint, Taberna said he found out about the irregularity committed by Aquino and Baluyot after several checks issued by his company bounced.
“In the last week of November 2020, several checks issued by A. Taberna Foods to suppliers were dishonored despite the supposed availability of funds. Upon inquiry with (the bank), the company discovered that respondent Aquino was able to open seven other bank accounts under the name of Taberna Foods,” Taberna said in his 11-page complaint.
A 40-year-old man in Quezon City was arrested after authorities found in his possession a sachet of suspected shabu which he allegedly bought using the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) cash aid or "ayuda" he received from the national government.
