COLUMBUS, Ohio Senior Izzy Rodriguez, a defender from Canton, Mich., was named a 2021-21 Third Team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches Thursday.
Rodriguez, the 2021 Big Ten Defender of the Year, is a three-time OSU Scholar Athlete and two-time Big Ten Academic All-Big Ten honoree. She was named one of two Ohio State captains for the 2021 season in early March.
Rodriguez is a veteran of 69 games in an Ohio State uniform. She helped the Buckeyes to an 8-3-3 record this season and over her career to 36 total victories. Ohio State was selected to the 2021 NCAA Tournament. The Buckeyes defeated Stony Brook in the NCAA opener 5-1 and fell to Santa Clara in the NCAA Second Round, 4-1.
Ohio State starting goal keeper Bailey Kolinski was forced to leave the game in the 3
rd minute after getting kicked in the face on a sliding save attempt. Sophomore Maciah Lipsey stepped in after playing only the final 7:22 of the Stony Brook win last Wednesday this season.
Kolinski returned in the 16
th minute and played the remainder of the game.
Santa Clara scored the first goal of the game in the sixth minute for the early lead. The Broncos added another in the 25
th minute to take a 2-0 lead after the first 45 minutes.
Kolinski finished the first half with six saves. Santa Clara outshot the Buckeyes 9-5 in the half with an 8-3 edge in shots on goal.
