It seemed as if nothing could stop Brianna Beamer. That point was hammered home to Pilot Grove again and again on Friday as the Community R6 forward scored 29 on the way to a 71-41 home win.
Beamer and the Trojans jumped out to a convincing lead in the early going, but the visitors began to come to life in the second quarter.
“We did not protect the rim very well in transition early in the game,” head coach Bob Curtis said.
No matter. Beamer – joined by Alexis Welch with 14 and Sarah Angel, who knocked down 13 – kept the tap running. A big third quarter surge silenced Pilot Grove for good, leading in an anti-climatic final period.

Three Trojans finished in double-digits. Sarah Angel was her usual pesky self on defense, recording 4 steals. As a team, Community R6 was almost flawless from the line, converting 18 of 24 attempts.
First, like many teams they have struggled to field a consistent roster thanks to the ravages of COVID-19 and quarantine protocols. Second, that doesn’t seem to matter.
The Trojans pummeled New Franklin 60-31 on Wednesday night to advance to the New Franklin Tournament title game. They are now 8-0 on the season and third in the state’s Class 1 rankings.
Community jumped out to a 17-5 lead after one and went into the halftime break with a comfortable 35-14 cushion. Sarah Angel seemed to be everywhere, scoring 19 points, picking New Franklin’s pockets for 5 steals and dishing out 3 assists.

It’s quite possible Slater’s starting five still have nightmarish visions of Alexis Welch and Sarah Angel.
The pair combined for 35 points – 18 for the former, 17 for the latter. To add to the carnage, Welch nabbed 10 rebounds and Angel picked Slater pockets five times as Community overwhelmed the Wildcats 52-21 on Friday.
