CASCO, Maine - The family of a man who passed away earlier this year was shocked after they discovered human remains while cleaning out his home in Maine.
The Cumberland County Sheriff s Office was alerted to the discovery Saturday afternoon. The family told deputies they found skeletal remains in an outbuilding while cleaning out their dead father s home.
The house belonged to Douglas Scott, 82, who passed away earlier this year.
Authorities did not say how long it appeared the remains had been there. A medical examiner looked over the body Sunday, and more testing is pending.

BLADEN COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) - A man is accused of firing shots at an occupied vehicle Tuesday in the White Oak area.
Jason Caulkins, 39, has been charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and placed in the Bladen County Detention Center under a $200,000 bond.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to a shots fired call near Cain’s Grill at approximately 10:45 a.m. Tuesday.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. As summer approaches, water safety is at the top of most parents and swim instructors minds.
The CDC said that around 10 people die every day from unintentional drowning. Of those, two are children younger than 14. Children between 1-year-old and 4-years-old have the highest drowning rates.
There are also ways for your children to save their own lives in water. Swim instructors encourage swim lessons early in life to prepare kids to stay safe in the water.

NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine Ricker Road in New Gloucester remained closed early Monday afternoon after a tractor-trailer carrying some 9,000 gallons of fuel rolled over just before 10:30 a.m.
The driver of the 2017 Freightliner, Valerie Farnham of Derry, New Hampshire, was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, according to Captain Kerry Joyce of the Cumberland County Sheriff s Office.
Sheriff s deputies, local firefighters, and Maine State Police were called to the crash at 10:21 a.m. Although initial reports indicated the driver was trapped in the vehicle, she was able to free herself, Joyce said in a release.
