Work on the ring road stretching between Vijayapura Road and Gadag Road via Gabbur Cross connecting PB Road has been halted owing protests by farmers
HUBBALLI: Even as the Dharwad district authorities are all set to submit a detailed report on the safety measures taken to prevent accidents on Hubballi-Dharwad bypass, to the Supreme Court following a recent accident which claimed 12 lives, farmers have raised objection to the design of outer ring road. The farmers of Gabbur, Bidnal, Yallapur Oni, Veerapur Oni and other neighbouring areas have urged authorities to construct underpasses that will give them access to their fields.
₹25 crore has been set aside for this
Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad Nitesh Patil has said that the government would acquire 1.3 acres of land for the Elevated Corridor project at Kittur Chennamma Circle in Hubballi and ₹25 crore had been set aside for the purpose.
Speaking at the stakeholders meeting at the KCCI auditorium in Hubballi on Friday, Mr. Patil assured the participants that care would be taken to ensure that the general public did not face much difficulty during the execution of the project.
He said that in the first phase, a four-lane flyover would be constructed on the road connecting Gadag and Vijayapura roads to Kittur Chennamma Circle. A 750 m elevated road would be constructed from Ambedkar Circle to the junction. In the same way, a 440 m elevated road would be constructed on Vijayapura road, he said.

HUBBALLI: Anxiety among the people over the condition of the roads in and around the twin cities has mounted many notches following the recent tragic accident on Hubballi-Dharwad bypass road that cost the life of 11 people. Worried residents have launched a signature campaign to push the authorities concerned towards making the bypass road, a stretch infamous for accidents, one on which nearly 30 to 35 fatalities are reported on average each year.
Although a similar campaign was launched a year ago and more than 13,000 signatures collected, little was done to make the road safer for commute.
