For Asians, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in Kansas City, this year has been particularly challenging.  AAPI residents make up 3% of the population in the Kansas City metropolitan area and 12% of the Midwest, according to Census Reporter and the Pew Research Center. What’s not seen in the data are the multifaceted ways in which they have helped shape the U.S. historically and culturally. Between the years 2000 and 2019, the Asian population nationwide more than doubled.
