Police break up gathering on boat for violating public health guidelines

  MONTREAL Montreal police broke up a gathering on a boat anchored in an Old Port marina on Saturday for allegedly violating public health guidelines. According to posts on social media, several of the boat s occupants were employees of far right media organization Rebel News. Police said about a dozen people onboard the boat, which was rented as an Airbnb, were not respecting COVID-19 pandemic rules regarding masks and social distancing. More Quebec social service workers can now get a vaccine

  QUEBEC CITY More workers in health and social services in Quebec are now eligible to be vaccinated, following a Saturday announcement from public health. On the same day that the province logged a record number of vaccinations in 24 hours, it also unveiled the beginning of phase two of inoculation for health and social service workers. Due to a shortage of vaccines in February, some were left out of the workers in the health and social services priority group.  The newly-eligible workers include: Network staff and trainees, as well as those in charge of intermediate and family-type resources who were not included in phase one

Montrealers flock outside, but many seem unaware of new mask rules

  MONTREAL Montrealers are heading outdoors to enjoy the spring weather, but confusion remains over which of the activities they re engaging in require masks. On Saturday, many people headed to the city s parks, glad for a chance to socialize, albeit with physical distancing, after a lonely winter. “The nice weather is here, so we re trying to see our friends slowly in small groups outdoors, trying to stay sane,” said one park-goer. But when meeting those friends from other households, a mask is required if people are not standing two metres apart at all times. While the science has shown that COVID-19 does not travel well outdoors, epidemiologist and cardiologist Chris Labos warned that the risk is not zero.

Essex town councilor asked to apologize for offensive tweets

  WINDSOR, ONT. The Mayor of Essex has asked a town councilor to issue a public apology after a tweet sparked outrage online with some community members calling for him to step down from his position. Hundreds have voiced their concerns on social media after Ward 3 Essex town councilor Chris Vander Doelen tweeted Friday: “My test for the Chinese flu came back positive. So I hafta lay low for another week. A punishment worse than the illness proved to be.” A tweet that infuriated resident Andy Chan. “I think a lot of people want to punch him in the face, but actually, I think he needs a hug,” Chan said. “Because only someone full of hate would spew such matter.”
