MONTREAL Connor Hellebuyck s 19-save effort earned him his second shutout of the season and gave the Winnipeg Jets a decisive 5-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday. Andrew Copp, Nikolaj Ehlers and Mathieu Perrault each had a goal and an assist, while Paul Stastny and Derek Forbort also scored for the Jets (25-13-3) who have now won three straight. The Canadiens (17-12-9) dropped their third game in a row. With Carey Price unavailable until next week (lower-body injury), Jake Allen made 20 saves as he dropped to 1-5-4 in his last 10 starts. After a first period in which both teams went long stretches without registering a shot on goal the Jets needed more than 11 minutes to fire a puck on Allen the game opened up in the second.
WINDSOR, ONT. The Essex County Chinese Canadian Association (ECCCA) has made a statement in regard to Ward 3 Essex town councilor Chris Vander Doelen s tweet, Friday. The tweet read, Damn. My test for the Chinese flu came back positive. So I hafta law low for another week a punishment worse than the illness proved to be. While they wish Vander Doelen a speedy recovery, they state, …his Twitter statement is unacceptable for someone in his position holding public office. For forty-five years, the ECCCA has contributed positively to our Windsor and Essex community working with our partners in civil society. We believe that Mr. Vander Doelen’s comments are unnecessary and harmful.
MONTREAL A man in his 70s is fighting for his life after losing control of his motorcycle in the Laurentian town of Lac-Superieur on Saturday afternoon. Emergency services were called at around 2 p.m. to the scene on Nordet Rd., near Mont-Tremblant National Park. The driver was taken to hospital and Surete du Quebec officers said they fear for his life. The reason for the collision is not yet known.

LONDON, ONT. The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) is reported 126 new cases of COVID-19 Sunday, down from Saturday s record high of 161. The region has seen five consecutive days of 100+ new cases. The last time the MLHU reported fewer than 100 cases was on April 5, with 79. The region now has a total of 8,394 cases, with 1,209 active, 6,995 resolved and 190 deaths. There are nine confirmed B.1.1.7 variant cases and 697 have screened positive for a variant of concern. The province confirmed a record high 4,456 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Sunday, surpassing the previous record total on Friday of 4,227 new infections. Late Saturday night, the Thames Valley District School Board announced new cases of the virus were detected at Arthur Ford Public School and Mitchell Hepburn Public School.
