MENTAL health and wellbeing awareness has taken a leap forward at a Keighley school. A competition at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School to design a mascot covering the topic was won by year-three pupil Mollie McArdle – who created Joey the kangaroo! “Joey has now been made into a cartoon character and plush teddy and will support a greater awareness of wellbeing within the school,” said a spokesman. And as part of the wellbeing work – being staged in partnership with Catholic Care – the school is relaunching its young mental health champions initiative. Year-four children – working with the school’s lead mental health champion, Michelle Wilson – were encouraged to apply for a role and outline why they felt it was important to talk about mental health.
