Political newcomer leads longtime incumbent in Allegheny Township Supervisors race

A political newcomer led a longtime incumbent by 42 votes in the Republican primary race for Allegheny Township Supervisor, according to unofficial tallies early Wednesday. As of 1:30 a.m., James Morabito had collected 52% of the votes counted, or 540 votes, compared to incumbent Supervisor Kathy Starr’s 47.9%, or 498 votes, unofficial tallies showed with results from all six of the township’s five precincts reported. No Democrats appeared on the ballot, but 382 people cast write-in votes, the official tallies showed. Those results were not available early Wednesday.

A township is kept rural by leaders refusing to upgrade infrastructure like sewers, water, roads, broadband, etc. Supervisor Kathy Starr has strived to keep all infrastructures in top-notch condition in order to make the township inviting to both residential and commercial developments. Our housing plans, businesses and beautiful farms and park areas co-exist in harmony, and the tax base is vibrant and strong, with no tax increases in eight years.

Republicans James Morabito and Kathy Starr are vying for one open seat on Allegheny Township’s board of supervisors. Township supervisors serve six-year terms. Starr is the incumbent supervisors chairwoman since 2003. A lifelong township resident, Starr, 78, owns a catering business in the township. A newcomer to the political scene, Morabito, 57, has resided in the township for 28 years and owns a used car dealership in Lower Burrell.
