The Mojave River Valley Horsemen’s Association’s first show of 2021 featured an obstacle challenge held at Marjorie Coulter’s Ranch in Apple Valley in late February.
A hardy bunch of riders and handlers tackled the challenge, which left Judge Kathleen O’Malley with some tough decisions to make.
At the end of the day, Haley Samano, handling Second Hand Rose, took home the Mini Buckle, with Reserve going to Gina Cunningham and Jimmy.
In the Riding divisions, buckle winners were Stacie Sammuels, Beginner; Penny Mooney, Intermediate; and Brandi Sammuels, Advanced.

Long-time friends, writers and horse lovers Victoria Hardesty and Nancy Perez began writing together several years ago when “life was too much with them,” and Nancy figured collaborating on a book would be just what the doctor ordered.
Their decision led to months of frequent chats about characters, plots, endings and more. Since Victoria lives on an Arabian horse ranch in Piñon Hills and had experience training, breeding and showing horses, she knew a book about a “wonder horse” would be perfect.
