Three-time champion and teacher, David Galeai, expressed how proud he was of the competitors and his students performances. He taught contestants Shogo Faleavai, Mateya Ale, Thea Rose Lazaro, Tarita Galeai, Manasseh Tuliloa and Tetupuariki Akanoa, he said. “They did a good job. They overcame fear, and when they got off the stage, they were 10 times more confident,” Galeai said. He shared one of his students was nervous because he was competing for the first time. Fireknife dancing isn’t easy, he said, because dancers are on their own and have to conquer their fears with no one to do it for them.

Murrow Awards, including awards for best digital news coverage, hard news and a special award for excellence in diversity, equity and inclusion. The awards were announced Thursday by the Radio Television Digital News Association. WWL’s top award for best digital coverage recognizes content on WWLTV.com, WWL-TV’s app and social media platforms. The entry included links to multiple stories in the investigative series “Standard of Care,” examining the deadly toll of the COVID-19 pandemic in local nursing homes. The series was produced by investigative reporters Katie Moore and Mike Perlstein and photographer/editors T.J. Pipitone and Derek Waldrip.
