Will talk about later to get to senator alexanders remarks at the 10 30 scheduled time. Thank you, mister president. It is such an honor to be here and to join my colleagues in paying tribute to senator alexander, there are many that want to speak and have a few words to say. All of us wish we could do this to a background of music with lamar playing the piano. That would be the proper setting but i am so pleased to stand and honor the three terms of service in this body and the way he touched the lives of individuals in this body and millions of tennesseans. We know that he has talked about it in his remarks, he has worked with educators. He has worked with innovators. He has worked with the healthcare community, and works with entertainers, many of whom called tennessee home. When i was serving in the house and representing tennessees seventh Congressional District so many times i would look over here and i would say what is lamar not working on today because he always had such a bro
Be determined by the two leaders. The presiding officer without objection. Mr. Mcconnell now, mr. President , this week our friend and colleague, the senior senator from tennessee, will mark a major milestone in his states history. As of tomorrow, Lamar Alexander will have served as tennessees governor or u. S. Senator for 24 years, eight months and 15 days. More combined years in offices than any other tennessean. Of course, senator alexander also remains the only tennessee governor ever popularly elected to the United States senate. The only Tennessee Republican to be undefeated in six statewide primary elections, and his 2008 general election vote total of 1,579,477 votes is still the largest ever recorded by a tennessee statewide candidate. So, mr. President , i ask consent that a statement from the tennessee secretary of state, trey hargan, who has calculated each of these political accomplishments, appear in the record following my remarks. Anyway, that is a lot of money, and when i reflect on this, think about some of the concerns that have been raised. Well what about the small investors . To me, the small investors are the people who are in the greatest need of getting advice that is in their best interests, because they dont have margin for error. And so when i hear that argument, i am i agree with the notion that small investors deserve advice, and we need to get more advice for small investors, but we need to get advice that is in their best interests. Folks who are wealthy and get conflicting at vice, thats unfortunate and wed like to prevent that but the consequences for them are less catastrophic than the family that saved 50,000 and is trying to figure out how to spend it. By the way, that small investor who has 50,000 or 100,000, the va

Utah senator maclee chairs the judiciary subcommittee on antitrust and competition. Welcome. This is the first hear on antitrust policy and consumer rights. I want to thank my friend and colleague senator klobuchar in chairing this committee before me. Weve always had a good work relationship and we share the same basic goals for this subcommittee which involves ensuring first and foremost that consumers are protected from those who would abuse the marketplace and second that we form effective oversight of the department of justices antitrust division and of the competition side of the federal trade commission. I look forward to continue that bipartisan work in this congress and i would like

Since the circuit riders know everybody in the state they were able to borrow some again ators from northern communities not impacted by the hurricane. And have the generators delivered to get the Drinking Water and sanitation restored immediately. The circuit riders also had the technical know how to size the right voltage and drive a backhoe if needed to clear the streets and dig up ruptured lines. All of this type of assistance is essential to restore water supply in an emergency. I called the separator out to help me. A community of about 1,000 homes to find the line break, causing a loss of water from any homes. The circuit rider came with advanced radar equipment that can precisely identify the location of the break which on this day happened to be in the woods. Congress shares this technical resource
