Last year, during the COVID-19 outbreak in Kerala, 83-year-old P.O. Shamsudeen, resident of Pattayam panchayat, was quickly moved to the hospital after he tested positive for the infection.
The octogenarian contracted the virus from his grandchildren who had returned from Dubai. Besides his age, what bothered the family and the hospital authorities was that he had already undergone two open-heart surgeries and had been operated upon for prostate. There was total panic in the family, as not just him, but 10 others in the family were also affected by the illness.

AAA In a time when hospitals are facing a crisis due to an insufficient number of ventilators to treat the COVID-19 patients, many of the ventilators supplied to the government hospitals under the PM Cares fund are remaining idle due to technical problems, unavailability of ventilator connectors and tubings in Kannur and Kasaragod district.
According to sources in the health department, the unavailability of ventilator connectors and tubing manufactured by a company has led to the issue.
The Central oxygen supply has to be connected to the ventilator connector, which comes in cylindrical and hexagon shapes.

Two children reportedly suffered minor injuries when a crude bomb they were playing with exploded at their house near Iritty in the district on Tuesday morning.
According to the police, the children found the crude bomb in their field and brought it home to play, thinking that it was a ball. The bomb exploded when they bounced it on the ground.
In the incident, brothers Muhammad Ameen, 5, Muhammad Raheed, 1½, of Pattikachal near Iritty were injured, police said.
The window panes of the house were also damaged in the incident. They were immediately taken to a private hospital in Iritty and Ameen was later shifted to the Kannur Medical College Hospital.

Two severely injured during clashes in Kasaragod. Sporadic incidents of violence broke out soon after the polling in Kannur and Kasaragod on Tuesday.
Police arrested a Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activist on Wednesday for the alleged murder of a Youth League activist at Koothuparamba, in Kannur.
The Youth League activist Paral Mansoor, 22, was killed after assailants attacked him soon after the polling was over at Pullukkara Mukil Peedika in Koothuparamba on Tuesday evening. Police have arrested Shinos, a Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI-M] activist, who is a neighbour of the victim.
