New Standard Will Help to Evaluate Durability of Laminated Glass

ASTM’s glass and glass products committee (C14) developed the standard, which will soon be published as C1900.    “The new standard outlines both natural exposure and accelerated environments to achieve performance results,” says ASTM International member Julia Schimmelpenningh. “This standard is needed to allow reference and unification in the testing and evaluation of laminated glass to ensure that equitable comparisons can be made that affect durability, performance, and, in some cases, life safety.”

NGA Publishes New Resource on School Security Glazing

Glass Technical Paper offers guidance to select proper security glazing for use in school settings. The National Glass Association (NGA) announces the publication of a new Glass Technical Paper (GTP) titled  School Security Glazing. This paper provides information on delayed forced entry security glazing options for windows and doors installed in schools. “This GTP was written as a supplement to NGA’s recent Security Glazing GTP. It contains an easy-to-read quick reference chart that will be of great help in narrowing the product choices based on the level of security desired,” indicates Urmilla Sowell, NGA advocacy and technical director. The paper outlines the types of security glazing available based on the level of penetration resistance required. Recently, ift Rosenheim has been conducting tests on windows and doors according to NAFS. In cooperation with its partner UL (Underwriter Laboratories Inc.), ift Rosenheim coordinates the required test specimens and test matrix with the client. Then, the tests take place at ift Rosenheim in Germany. The manufacturer can have both preliminary and main tests carried out. The tests or the test reports are recognized on the American and Canadian markets. This facilitates market access for manufacturers from Germany and Europe and saves time and money, as there are no overseas travel and transport costs.
