DOVER The Strafford County House of Corrections now has 29 detainees and 5 correctional officers who have tested positive for COVID-19, according to the latest test results shared by the facility’s superintendent.
One additional officer was exhibiting mild symptoms, but test results for that individual weren’t back as of 4 p.m. Friday, according to Superintendent Chris Brackett.
Brackett said his staff continue to carefully manage the jail’s outbreak first announced Tuesday and everyone’s safety. The facility s outbreak management includes strict testing protocols to using negative pressure rooms to quarantine symptomatic individuals.
As the staff cases increase, so too is the overtime being used to cover open shifts, according to Brackett. One employee has recovered and is eligible to return to duty, but as of Friday afternoon Strafford County was still short 25 shifts a week because of the five others who are still out on COVID leave.
Local school districts largely increased their four-year graduation rates for the class of 2020 and also all were above the state average, according to data released Thursday.
âDuring one of the most tumultuous, unpredictable times in modern American history, Washingtonâs Class of 2020 found the resolve to finish their studies and graduate,â an Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction press release said.
The statewide four-year graduation rate was two percentage points higher than last yearâs, at nearly 83%. Five-, six- and seven-year graduation rates were also higher than last year, according to the press release.
âThe Class of 2020 completed their senior year in a manner unlike all of the graduating classes before them,â said Superintendent Chris Reykdal. âIâm proud of the way our educators, school staff and families came together to support our seniors in reaching the finish line despite the challenges they faced.â
