The Henrico County School Board elected new leadership during its bi-monthly work session Thursday. Michelle Ogburn of the Three Chopt district was elected as school board chair and Marcie Shea of Tuckahoe as the new vice-chair.
In addition, Cathy Harris was elected as clerk, and Tiffany Burton as deputy clerk. The Board also approved Superintendent Amy Cashwell’s recommendation for Beth Teigen, her chief of staff, to attend board meetings in her absence.
Following a closed session, Cashwell quickly addressed confusion regarding the district’s recent decision to delay Henrico’s return to in-person learning indefinitely.
Henrico schools’ superintendent says teachers and staff may be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as next week, now that they have been included in the state’s next phase of vaccinations.
Henrico Schools announced it would delay the return to in-person learning so school nurses could be involved with the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines to school employees.
Henrico Schools Push In-Person Return to Jan. 25

Henrico County Public Schools is pushing back its timeline to reopen public schools. While they originally planned on returning to in-person learning on the week of Jan. 11, classrooms will now welcome back elementary students on Jan. 25.
Middle school students will have the option to return to in-person classes on Monday, Feb. 1, and high school students can return later that week on Feb. 4. All students will still have the option to continue attending school virtually.

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. The Henrico County Public School s Health Committee will meet Monday to discuss when students should return to in-person learning.
The committee will review the latest data related to COVID-19 in the local area and region.
In November, Superintendent Amy Cashwell announced, with the School Board s support, the county would delay the expansion of in-person learning.
Under the recommendation, grades PreK-2 return to in-person learning on Jan. 11, 2021 (the return date had been November 30.) The return to in-person learning for students in grades 3-5 is scheduled for Jan. 14, 2021 (the return date had been Dec. 7.)
