This was in response to a writ petition filed by former BTC Chief Executive Member and BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary. The petition has stated that the Chief Executive Member and other elected members have been appointed in violation of Constitutional provisions.

Reports have it that Ghanashyam Das was registered on grounds of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and even arrested, although he was released on bail after a few months. Ghanashyam Das was sworn-in on Tuesday as an executive member of the Council and had won the contest from the Dihira seat. As the reports came to light, Child Rights Activist and the media have been trying to reach Das although he remains holed up in a Guwahati hotel.

The ruling BJP in Assam almost turned the swearing-in ceremony of the new Bodoland Territorial Council members in Kokrajhar on Tuesday into a campaign for the 2021 Assembly polls. The ruling party, which emerged as the kingmaker in the recent BTC polls by ending Bodoland People’s Front’s 17-year reign, still seemed to be in poll mode, which was evident from the speeches of cabinet minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Apart from urging the people to support the newly appointed BTC chief Pramod Boro, the two leaders slipped in what the state government intended to do in the next few months for the welfare of the people living in the council area.
