Guwahati High Court has ordered composite floor tests in the newly elected sixth schedule Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) on or before December 26. Election to the 40 member council had resulted in fractured mandate with Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) emerging single largest party 17 seats.

Guwahati: Guwahati High Court has ordered composite floor tests in the newly elected sixth schedule Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) on or before December 26. Election to the 40 member council had resulted in fractured mandate with Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) emerging single largest party 17 seats. However, BJP and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) supported by Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) formed the government of council. Lone Congress MLA left the party and joined BJP.

Guwahati: The ordeal is far from over for Promod Boro-led Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC). The Gauhati High Court on Tuesday has ordered for a composite floor test by December 26, which means Promod Boro will have to prove his majority. Making things worse for Boro, the order has put a stay on the appointment of the nominated members, they will not be able to vote during the floor test and cannot participate in the election of the Chief Executive Member. The Court has barred the Council from taking any policy decision.

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court on Friday ordered “status quo” on the formation of the new executive council of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) after hearing a challenge petition filed by former chief executive member (CEM) of the council, Hagrama Mohilary, and other elected members of Bodoland People’s Front (BPF). The court will hear the matter again on December 22.
“The petition challenged the manner in which the chief executive member, deputy chief executive member and other executives were appointed to form the council in violation of constitutional provisions. The court heard us as well as the government advocate and has ordered status quo. The next date of hearing is on December 22,” Mohilary’s counsel said. The case was heard by Justice Suman Shyam.
