The Day - Montville housing development finally flood management certified - News from southeastern Connecticut

Montville  Dakota Partners has at last secured approval of its flood management certification application for a planned 72-unit housing development on Pink Row at the former Faria Beede Mill property. On Tuesday, Dakota Marketing Director Katie Cardillo offered an official statement on the news from the company, noting that construction should resume in the spring of this year. The Flood Management Certification will be issued after the expiration of the 30-day public notice, which should be around the end of February, the statement reads. The 30-day public notice was required as this project needed exemptions from certain state rules, which regulate building in a 500-year floodplain. The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection conditionally approved the permit, based on our satisfaction of design changes requested. Once the Flood Management Certification is issued, the project can be re-started.

New London  A state official involved in planning for the reconstruction project at State Pier in New London says efforts are underway to keep the project on budget. Kosta Diamantis, deputy secretary for the Office of Policy and Management, addressed the Connecticut Port Authority this week and fielded questions about the possibility of costs escalating for the $157 million project, which is being funded through a partnership by the state and joint venture partners Eversource and Ørsted. State Sen. Paul Formica, R-East Lyme, was among those to question statements made by Gov. Ned Lamont to The Day’s editorial board earlier this month that the cost of the project had risen above $200 million. Formica also wanted clarification on whether the state was on the hook for cost overruns.
