Customers scramble to settle arrears as APUA disconnection waiver winds to an end

With less than a week to go until the Antigua Public Utilities Authority’s (APUA) disconnection waiver comes to an end, customers across the island are scrambling to get their accounts in order.
The company announced last week that the nine-month waiver of disconnections, as part of its Covid-19 relief efforts, would end on January 31. This means utility services for both residential and commercial customers will be liable for disconnections starting February 1.
APUA spokeswoman Sharifa George told Observer yesterday that the announcement almost immediately prompted action from customers.

Earlier this week, a signage posted on Makati Medical Center caught the attention of the public. One of its doctors, Angelo Lozada, posted on social media the advisory that prohibited the use of copper masks, as well as those with valves, in the hospital’s premises.

AMMAN Following His Majesty King Abdullah’s directive to the government in December 2019 to embark immediately on merging the Civil Defence and the Gendarmerie departments into the Public Security Directorate (PSD), the Kingdom welcomed 2020 with a stronger and more capable security apparatus, according to the PSD.
After the merger, the directorate over the past year proceeded with more reforms reorganising several units, resulting in the merger of more than 99 units with similar tasks and, as a result, saving some JD180 million, PSD Director Maj. Gen. Hussein Hawatmeh said in a PSD statement.
