City: Miscommunication, COVID-19 to blame for extended delay in road closure

Ray K. Erku / Post Independent Rifle’s traffic congestion woes are likely to continue as the city recently agreed to extend the closure of Hospital Hill Road into summer. During an April 21 board meeting, FCI Constructors Inc, hired by Grand River Health to construct the new Grand River Care Center, notified the city that construction won’t be finished until August. Hospital Hill Road, which extends from Ash Avenue to U.S. Highway 6 at the south of the facility, was closed to traffic in 2018 when the project broke ground. Hospital Hill Road would be realigned, and the city contributed $250,000 to the roadway.

Bridge work on I-74 in Henry County begins May 3 IDOT The Illinois Department of Transportation announces today that weather permitting, repairs on the bridges carrying Interstate 74 over Osco-Orion Road in Henry County will begin on Monday, May 3. The bridges are located 6 miles south of the I-80/280 interchange. General Constructors Inc. of Bettendorf, Iowa, is the contractor for the $627,393 project, which includes deck patching, expansion joint replacement, concrete overlay and structure repairs. One lane will be closed in each direction at each bridge. Work is expected to be completed by mid-July. Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area.

Berthoud to top off Waggener Farm rec center Thursday – BizWest

The long-awaited park and rec center on the west side of Berthoud along Berthoud Parkway and Mountain Avenue is on schedule for completion late this year. Town Administrator Chris Kirk said the town anticipates beginning to train staff in October with a public opening of the rec center in November or December. The rec center is a 54,000-square-foot facility that includes a fitness area, two basketball courts, gym, class and meeting rooms, a bouldering feature and an aquatics facility. In addition, the recreation complex will include outdoor playgrounds; outdoor basketball courts; a skate park; and two, large multi-use athletic fields that can be subdivided into smaller fields, Kirk said.
