NORWICH Connecticut Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz has emphasized the importance of shopping local this year, despite the fact a pandemic is raging.
“This is so important because so many businesses in our downtowns are hanging by a thread,” Bysiewicz said.
Earlier this week, Bysiewicz held a virtual roundtable discussion with various officials and business owners in Norwich to see how the city has encouraged people to shop local, and how businesses in the city have adapted to the climate.
“It is inspiring to see the innovation that businesses are doing to keep their employees safe, she said, and also to meet their customer needs and help bring people to our vibrant downtowns.”

I semi-gave you a bum steer last Wednesday and my apologies for that. I forget this time of year across large sections of the country anything and everything outdoors always needs to have that typographic symbol that looks sort of like a snowflake, the asterisk ( ), because there s always a chance of some form of precipitation, and this time of year, the smart bet is on snow.
That, as you know by now, was exactly what the Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce, GNACC, was calculating when they checked out the forecast and saw what was heading our way for last Saturday and rescheduled the Shop Local Holiday Market downtown for this Saturday running for noon until 4 ( weather permitting (see, I m catching on)).

Norwich Local businesses are trying to find creative ways to get the message out that they are open for holiday shopping and beyond, and the city and local business support agencies are pledging to help them.
Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz hosted a Zoom news conference Wednesday featuring Norwich businesses as part of the state’s campaign to promote holiday shopping in local stores, whether it be in person or online.
“You don’t have to leave Norwich to do your holiday shopping,” Bysiewicz said, “and what a wonderful time to support the small businesses that give our towns and cities the special character that they have, and also to support the people who are supporting our Little League teams, who are supporting our nonprofits and civic organizations and people who are our community volunteers.”
