The ministry of defence (MoD) has issued Request of Proposal (RFP) for construction of six fuel cell-based Air Independent Propulsion Plant (AIP) fitted conventional submarines for the Indian Navy, the first acquisition programme under the Strategic Partnership Model.
The RFP was issued to shortlisted strategic partners, ie, Indian applicant companies for the project - Mazagaon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) and Larsen & Tubro (L&T). The project, called ‘Project 75 (India) [P-75(I)]’ is estimated to cot over Rs40,000 crore.

In a big boost for the
Indian Navy’s submarine fleet, the defence ministry issued a Request of Proposal (RFP) on Tuesday for the first acquisition programme under the Strategic Partnership Model for construction of six AIP fitted conventional submarines named Project 75 (India).
The RFP was issued to shortlisted
Strategic Partners (
SPs) or
Indian Applicant Companies for the project viz, M/s Mazagaon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) and M/s Larsen & Tubro (L&T). The project cost is over Rs 40,000 crore.

Within six weeks of having okayed a plan to make six next-generation stealth conventional submarines, the Ministry of Defence on Tuesday formally invited bids for the Rs 43,000 crore ($5.8 billion) project.
The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), the apex decision-making body of the MoD headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, had on June 4 okayed to issue a Request for Proposal (RFF). Today, the RFP was issued to selected Indian and global companies.
