“The men and women of the armed forces can’t be their best when they’re worried about all of you, the families who are struggling, and that’s why this … is a national security imperative,” Biden said.
The “Joining Forces” program was started by former first lady Michelle Obama and then-second lady Biden in 2011.
Biden said she wanted to learn firsthand from families working at the Marine Corps installation in Twentynine Palms what they need from their country to succeed in and out of the military, and what is being done at the base to help military families across the country.
