Nick Montgomery has been appointed as Central Coast Mariners A-League Head Coach, following the completion of an extensive selection process by the club.
Montgomery played for the Mariners between 2012 and 2017 after moving from Sheffield United, and after retiring as a professional player stepped into the coaching fold.
The 39-year-old completed his UEFA Pro Licence coaching certificate during the Covid-19 lockdown and has spent the past two seasons as Head Coach of the Mariners NPL and Y-League sides, taking out the NPL2 Premiership/Championship double last season.
In his role with the Academy, Montgomery has also played an influential role in the development of some of the Mariners brightest young stars, including Alou Kuol, Matt Hatch, Dan Hall, Jordan Smylie and Max Balard.
It didn t come as a surprise when Laura Sherrill set her sights on attending the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in King s Point, New York.
Growing up in Ketchikan, Sherrill had watched as her brother and sister both left to attend the academy after receiving congressional nominations. Her father, Troy Sherrill, also attended the academy. I feel like I ve always known I wanted to go to the Merchant Marine academy, said Sherrill in a recent interview with the Daily News. My father, he went there, and then it kind of solidified when my sister got accepted and went. I was in middle school. And then I was like, OK, well, my sister s going, my brother s probably going to go, this is something I can look into.

The Central Coast Mariners and VfB Stuttgart have agreed terms for the transfer of Alou Kuol, with the young forward to join the German club at the conclusion of the A-League 2020/21 season.
Kuol joined the Mariners youth setup from Goulburn Valley Suns after a trial in 2019 and made his A-League debut last year against Newcastle Jets as the season resumed from the COVID-19 hiatus. He has made his mark on the A League this season by putting in some great performances as well as scoring seven goals in the A-League.
Mariners Head of Football Ken Schembri said the move is a great step for Kuol and is a sign of the strong work being done in the Mariners Academy.
The Central Coast Mariners will lose a valuable player next season, with Alou Kuol released to play for German club, V-F-B Stuttgart.
The athlete made his debut with the local squad last year, and has scored seven goals in a-league this season.
The Head of Football Ken Schembri says the move is a great step for Kuol and is a sign of the strong work being done in the Mariners Academy.
