Virginia Beach will use parking money to help build entertainment venue Stacy Parker, The Virginian-Pilot
The City Council agreed on Tuesday in a 8-2 vote to move money from two parking funds to pay for increased costs in building a new entertainment venue at the Oceanfront.
Virginia Beach already planned to contribute $30 million to build the venue, but changes to the design and location raised the cost by about $9 million, according to the city. The project will feature a music hall that will able to accommodate 3,500 people with tiered viewing platforms and a pedestrian lawn.
The entertainment venue is part of Atlantic Park, a $325 million project that will include a surf park, apartments, offices, retail and restaurants on 10 acres between 18th and 19th streets.
