Acting CPI(M) State Secretary A Vijayaraghavan said here that the LDF will hold a meeting on May 17 to discuss the ministry formation. THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP drew a blank in the Kerala assembly elections, failing to retain even Nemom, which party leaders often referred to as “BJP’s Gujarat in Kerala”. What could offer some solace is that the party finished second in 8 seats. At Manjeswaram in Kasaragod, where party state president K Surendran put up a strong fight, it lost by a narrow margin of 745 votes to the Indian Union Muslim League candidate. Apart from Manjeswaram, Surendran contested from Konni in Pathanamthitta. The leader who was also the face of BJP during the Sabarimala agitations was relegated to third position in the constituency where the temple is situated.

The final decision regarding the members of the second Pinarayi cabinet will be made within 4 days. Most of the central committee members and state secretariat members who contested from the CPM will be in the cabinet. It is learnt that the Left Front has decided to give ministerial posts to all the constituent parties. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who will arrive in the capital tomorrow, will hand over his resignation letter to the governor. With that, the current ministry will continue to be the caretaker ministry. The CPM state secretariat, which will meet on Tuesday, will decide the date of the state committee and Left Front meetings. Though the vote shares of political parties are yet to be known, BJP leaders are not optimistic of the party improving its performance. The party has, however, managed to end as runners-up in nine seats. In Manjeswaram, though party state president K Surendran put up a strong fight, he was defeated by IUML’s candidate by a margin of 745 votes. Surendran had lost the constituency by a margin of 85 votes in the last elections.
