VISAKHAPATNAM: The first council meeting of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) on Friday unanimously passed a resolution against the privatisation of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP). The issue was on top of the agenda and taken in response to a representation given by corporators Dr B Ganga Rao of CPI(M) and Peela Srinivasa Rao of Telugu Desam.

The CPI(M) City Committee has opposed the reported move of the State government to sell 13.59 acres of land and 18 other properties on the Beach Road in the city.
The YSRCP government has laid the ground for sale of lands in the city under the ‘Build AP Mission’ project, CPI(M) city secretary B. Ganga Rao said in a statement here on Wednesday. He recalled that the State government had promised to cancel the agreement with the LuLu Group made by the Chandrababu Naidu government in the past, and utilise the land identified for the project for a public purpose instead.

Officials explain corporators about various projects
A preparatory meeting was held for the newly-elected GVMC corporators on Tuesday ahead of the council meeting which is scheduled for April 9.
The meeting was chaired by Mayor Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari and Deputy Mayor Giyyani Sridhar.
The meeting was convened to create awareness among the corporators about various development works and ongoing projects in the city.
Chief Engineer M. Venkateswara Rao spoke on various projects, including drinking water, horticulture, electricity and other engineering works, being taken up by the GVMC.
