COMMENT | Outgoing Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Abdul Hamid Bador’s recent call for the Police Force Commission to not be chaired by a minister to prevent political interference is a timely one.
It appears from a news article that there may have been interference in the management of the police force in the form of appointments of state chief police officers (CPOs), Bukit Aman directors and IGP. His proposal to have a non-politician as the commission chairperson is a wise call - as he so succinctly put it: “If a minister chairs the commission, political elements will seep into it.”

Outgoing Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Abdul Hamid Bador, who handed over duties to his successor Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani today, said while he appeared happy over his retirement, he was worried about the challenges faced by the police force.
He said this included the public s perception of the police, which came amid Home Minister Hamzah Zanudin s admission that he was the person in a recording discussing appointing our boys to key positions in the police force.
Hamzah was notably absent from the handover ceremony at the police headquarters in Bukit Aman, Kuala Lumpur this morning, despite his larger-than-life.

KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 Outgoing Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador described Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin’s interference in police matters as unnecessary and blamed him for the reason behind the existence of different “camps” within the police force.
Abdul Hamid, at a press conference this evening, said that Hamzah as the president of the Police Force Commission (PFC) insisted on deciding transfers of police officers.
