OU President Joseph Harroz announced in an email to the OU community Oklahoma House Bill 1775 was signed into law despite the university s âstrong objectionâ to it.
HB 1775, originally an emergency bill regarding medical situations during high school sporting events, was rewritten into a bill implementing restrictions on certain gender and diversity theories being taught in schools.
The university and the OU Student Government Association released statements on Thursday urging Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt to veto the bill.
In the Friday email, Harroz wrote âalthough OUâs mandatory diversity, equity, and inclusion training does not espouse superiority of one race or sex,â the institution is impacted by the passage of the bill.Â
The OU Student Government Association released a statement after the Oklahoma House of Representatives passed House Bill 1775, urging Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt to veto the bill.
HB 1775 was originally written as a bill regarding emergency medical situations during high school sporting events. The bill was entirely rewritten into a bill that implements restrictions on certain gender and diversity theories being taught in schools and could hurt the OU community, according to the statement signed by Tavana Farzaneh, SGA president; Crispin South, chair of the Undergraduate Student Congress; Claire Burch, chair of the Graduate Student Senate; and Kobe Chen, chair of Campus Activities Council.
