The city is planning to offer another round of federal aid for Oahu renters and landlords starting April 1. City officials told the council Friday that $114 million will be available for lower-income residents to cover both back and future rents.

(AP) Siblings Dana Perkins and Alice Smith are hoping people in North Dakota and other areas in the country might be able to help them identify a large collection of photos that their father took while he was stationed in Hawaii in the 1940s after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Perkins recently contacted The Minot Daily News about their World War II Pacific Veterans Project. When World War II veteran Richard Erlon Perkins died several years ago at the age of 92, his son, Dana, of Saco, Maine, and daughter, Alice, of Yarmouth, Maine, found the large tin filled with rolls of film negatives at his home. The film negatives had never been converted into photographic prints.

The sewage overflow was caused by a pump station error at a manhole on Kalanianaole Highway. The Department of Environmental Services recovered 500 gallons of sewage, but the remaining 4,500 gallons entered a nearby stream. ENV responded to the sanitary sewer overflow at around 8:15 p.m. and stopped the overflow at 8:50 p.m.

The Kauai Emergency Management Agency said Thursday that part of the Kuhio Highway will remain closed at least through Tuesday while officials assess the damage, remove debris and stabilize slopes. The landslide occurred after days of heavy rain battered the Hawaiian Islands. Authorities on Maui and Oahu ordered mass evacuations of communities amid concerns over flooding. At least six homes and two bridges were damaged or destroyed on Maui.

The Kailua bowling alley faced many hardships before the pandemic, but the effects of COVID-19 limiting and closing business proved to be too difficult. The owners recently approached Alexander & Baldwin to initiate closing discussions. Daniel Sylva and Arthur Machado, owners of Pali Lanes, said pandemic made the business impossible to sustain.
