mreuther@sungazette.com Lawmakers sworn into office Tuesday are looking forward to what could be an interesting year with COVID-19 continuing to impact the state and pressing budget issues awaiting them. State Rep. Jeff Wheeland, R-Loyalsock Township, said the atmosphere in Harrisburg for this year’s ceremonial process was a bit surreal. “It feels like you are up to your knees in mud as you walk around because everything is socially distant,” he said. Wheeland said lawmakers were divided in groups of 50 each for the swearing in process, while maintaining social distancing. “I was in the third group,” he said.

A group of local volunteers placed 130 wreaths of balsam fir greens in the cemetery at Picture Rocks on Saturday, Dec. 19. RUTH FRY/The Luminary Sierra Sullivan, Coordinator, was inspired by her mother, Deb Sullivan, to join the effort of a national project known as “Wreaths Across America.” The result was the placing of 130 balsam fir wreaths on veterans graves in the Picture Rocks Cemetery on Dec. 19, 2020.
