AUSTIN Gov. Greg Abbott faced only tough choices after Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick early Wednesday demanded an overtime session next month.
With Patrick stirring up outrage among the Texas GOP’s staunchest conservatives, none of three options before the Republican governor was appealing.
Initially, Abbott stalled for time. Two hours after Patrick’s tweet demanding a special session, Abbott responded with a tweet and a press release saying that there remains ample time “to get important conservative legislation to my desk.” The session ends Monday.

1 Serving as a volunteer deputy registrar It’s been a gratifying volunteer experience to serve Dallas County as a volunteer deputy registrar for the last three years. In various venues such as outdoor events, high schools, etc., I’m able to help newly qualified voters, Texas newcomers and others. Some weren’t familiar with Texas’ voting registration process. Others have seen online that they can print and mail an application. It’s exciting to see their enthusiasm about becoming a voter.

A cautionary tale
Re: “Two-Step for Texas Treasures Pull on your boots and help save pieces of our history,” Monday Editorials.
I recommend this editorial about Texas dance halls as a cautionary tale. I grew up in Western Iowa, also settled by German and Czech immigrants who brought the tradition of shooting clubs (Schutzenverein) and built dance halls throughout the area.
