More migrants risking freight trains to cross El Paso border, CBP says

Undocumented migrants are increasingly taking dangerous risks riding freight trains in attempts to cross the El Paso-Juárez border, officials said. Migrants have been found on top of freight cars, hiding on trains, clinging onto the undercarriage and inside new vehicles being transported north, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Monday. We cannot stress how dangerous of a practice this is,  El Paso CBP Director of Field Operations Hector Mancha said in a statement. Since the fiscal year began last fall, CBP officers have found 292 migrants on freight trains at the two international rail crossings on each side of the Paso del Norte Bridge in Downtown, officials said. By comparison, CBP caught 181 migrants on trains during the same period a year ago and 50 migrants in all of fiscal 2019.

REUTERS/Carlos Garcia Rawlins/File Photo CARACAS (Reuters) - A floating facility off the Venezuelan coast has finished offloading crude stored in it for the past two years due to U.S. sanctions, paving the way for output to resume in an oilfield, an official of the facility’s operator said on Thursday. Operations to remove crude from the Nabarima floating storage and offloading facility (FSO), anchored in the eastern Gulf of Paria near the maritime border with Trinidad and Tobago, started in December. The crude had been stored there since 2019 when the United States imposed sanctions on Venezuela.
