Weekend storms bring tornados and heavy rain, but little damage to South Plains
Lubbock and much of the South Plains were spared the brunt of the devastation parts of the Panhandle saw from the weekend s storms, which mostly brought beneficial rainfall to the Lubbock area along with some reports of damage. We did have a number of confirmed tornadoes over our area, but most were over open country and didn t cause any significant damage, said Robert Barritt, lead forecaster with the National Weather Service office in Lubbock.
The weather service database of storm reports online shows about a half dozen confirmed or spotted tornadoes around the South Plains Friday and Saturday, including near Shallowater, Hale Center, Nazareth and Ralls, among others.
