Texas Rangers lineup for March 3, 2021 against the Los Angeles Angels.
We have game four of the exhibition season for the Texas Rangers today, and of particular note is that Ronald Guzman is hitting fifth and playing left field. According to Baseball Reference, Guzman has four career starts in the outfield one in left field for the AZL Rangers in 2012, two in left field for Hickory in 2014, and one in left field in the Arizona Fall League in 2015.
Guzman is, as we have discussed, out of options, and so he can’t be sent to the minors without being exposed to waivers. His path to making the team as a first baseman/DH is hindered by Nate Lowe having been acquired to be the everyday first baseman and DH having a variety of folks, most of them left handed, expected to get the playing time there. If Guzman can play the outfield credibly, that would increase the amount of positional flexibility he offers, and make it easier

Unique Rules in Spring Training
Wednesday s game between the Rangers and Angels will be six official innings. According to Major League Baseball s 2021 Operations Manual, games up to March 13 can be shortened if both managers agree.
There is also a temporary rule that allows for managers of a defensive team to end (or roll) an inning prior to three outs following any completed plate appearance, provided the pitcher has thrown more than 20 pitches. The Rangers utilized this rule twice in Sunday s matchup with the Kansas City Royals, and utilized it three times in Tuesday s contest with the White Sox.
