OKLAHOMA CITY -
Oklahoma County commissioners could appoint a new member of the Oklahoma County Jail trust after former chair Tricia Everest left last month.
According to its agenda, the commissioners will discuss and take possible action in making Joe Allbaugh the newest member of the jail trust.
Allbaugh is the former director of the Department of Corrections.
However, while Allbaugh s name is on the agenda, commissioner Carrie Blumert believes each commissioner should be able to submit their own name for the jail trust position. There is an item on our Commission agenda Monday to appoint Joe Allbaugh as trustee on the Jail Trust,” Blumert said Friday on Twitter, in part. “We have not created a process yet for how we will consider new trustees. Each of us should get to submit the name we want then we discuss.

Former Oklahoma prisons boss picked for county jail trust

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The former head of Oklahoma’s prison system was appointed Monday to the Oklahoma County Jail Trust.
The Oklahoma County Board of Commissioners announced Joe Allbaugh would fill a vacancy on the nine-member panel, which was created last year to oversee a jail long plagued with overcrowding, inmate deaths, escapes and crumbling infrastructure.
Allbaugh served as director of the Department of Corrections from 2016 until he abruptly resigned in 2019. He previously worked as chief of staff for then-Texas Gov. George W. Bush and later as director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency after Bush was elected president.
