The resumption of service comes as Vermont is preparing for its post-pandemic reopening. Gov. Phil Scott has announced plans for the state to be largely reopened by July 4, if current vaccination rates continue. With the Governor s announcement this week of the Vermont Forward Plan to re-open Vermont fully during the next few months, we now have a target date for when we will be able to safely resume Amtrak and transit services in July, Vermont Transportation Secretary Joe Flynn said in a statement.

Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Agency of Transportation (AOT) today announced that Amtrak passenger rail service and inter-city bus service in Vermont will resume effective July 19, 2021. Governor Scott indicated at a recent press conference that he expected service to resume this summer. It was suspended in Vermont at the beginning of the pandemic last year. The Vermont Amtrak routes are among the last to restart.
Amtrak is expected to restore Rutland to Burlington passenger service by extending the Ethan Allen Express within the next couple of years and perhaps as early as next year.
