BOARDMAN Four years ago, Daniel Phillips was given a gift from a patient, and both still have an impact on him.
A nurse practitioner with Akron Children’s Hospital, Phillips, of Canton, works with the palliative care team for the hospital. He also leads an outreach program to the Mahoning Valley by ensuring patients have access to resources they would in larger cities.
Phillips recalled the teen, who was diagnosed with cancer and had made the decision to stop treatment and transfer to hospice.
That patient, he said, “was the light of my day. Every time I saw her she was smiling” despite her diagnosis.
