WHEELING Wheeling City Council members had mixed reactions to backlash from three local institutions of higher learning, which this week jointly and publicly opposed the city’s efforts to bring Bluefield State College to Wheeling.
Some council members on Thursday indicated that, moving forward, they would reconsider their support of the effort to bring the southern West Virginia college to Wheeling, a project initiated earlier this year through a memorandum of understanding between the city and Bluefield State. Other council members and city leaders indicated they will continue supporting the move, another part of the ongoing effort to fill vacant space at the city-owned former Ohio Valley Medical Center.

Margaret Evelyn Miller, 96, of St. Clairsville, Ohio died March 10, 2021 at her home.
She was born January 20, 1925 in St. Clairsville, a daughter of the late Joseph Merle Doty and Margaret Ann Kocsis Doty.
Margaret graduated from St. Clairsville High School and the Ruth Brant School of Nursing. She was a retired registered Nurse from Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling where she worked in the Operating Room. She was a memberof First Presbyterian Church in St. Clairsville where she served as Deacon and Elder. She was a member of the Bridgeport Chapter #181, Order of Eastern Star; a member of Wheeling Women’s Club and the Thursday Music Club in Wheeling.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. Two West Virginia mayors are urging Congress to pass the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief bill, with both officials warning of constraints on municipal budgets related to the pandemic and response efforts.
Huntington Mayor Steve Williams and Wheeling Mayor Glenn Elliott participated in a press call Wednesday about the American Rescue Plan Act and how local governments have handled the virus.

“We’re at a critical point right now against this pandemic, building back from the lingering effect that this health and economic crisis is going to have on our communities,” Williams said. “Our fear is that this is going to last much longer.”
