Ohio University has more than doubled its alumni engagement, according to one of the world’s largest nonprofit education associations.
The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), a global nonprofit of more than 3,600 colleges and universities dedicated to education advancement, began a system of measuring alumni engagement in fiscal year 2019 that aims to include more than philanthropic activity. Ohio University’s Alumni Engagement score for 2019 was 5.1 percent, roughly 12,000 alumni. For 2020, OHIO’s score increased to 12.4 percent, or to 33,000 alumni.

One of the world’s largest nonprofit education associations has once again recognized Ohio University Advancement’s communication and marketing efforts as among the region’s best.
Ohio University earned three awards during the 2020 Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District V Conference, held Dec. 14-17 in Chicago. CASE is a global nonprofit association of educational institutions that focuses on best practices in the field of advancement.
Ohio University Alumni Association received two awards related to the Volunteer Alumni Admissions Network (VAAN), specifically for their work on the Postcard Project. Due to the nature of the pandemic, many graduating seniors in the class of 2020 missed the usual celebratory milestones. VAAN volunteers sent these graduating seniors congratulatory postcards welcoming them into the alumni community.

Toyia Montgomery, BSJ ‘02, is not afraid to take chances. The lifelong entrepreneur has started multiple businesses after graduating from OHIO, including Cliqq & Sip Coffee Shop in 2011 and Charm Consulting PR firm in 2015.
“I’ve always been an entrepreneur,” she said. “My dad was an entrepreneur, and my mom was an entrepreneur, so it’s kind of in my blood.”
